As I walk to the subway in the morning, I pass the window of an Ann Taylor Loft store… this cute dress keeps catching my eye:
Tiered Winter White Mini Dress, $128. Right now you can get 40% off, with code HOLIDAY at checkout! That makes it a mere $76.80!
This would be cute to wear for New Year’s Eve with some sky high black pumps and interesting tights:
Pour La Victore Irina Black Platform Pumps, $255.
Banana Republic Chevron Pointelle Tights, $16.50.
Add an inexpensive sequined clutch and you’re ready for a night of festivities!

A pretty lace dress is a wonderful thing to wear during the holiday season. Lace is dressy and feminine, and also happens to be trendy right now.
Here is a gorgeous lace dress from Sue Wong, Lace Sheath Dress, $335. The detailing of the lace is incredibly beautiful, you can tell it’s nicer than average quality – thus the price.
But… if you don’t think you will wear the dress that many times, it’s sensible to go for a lower priced alternative. Here is one from Ann Taylor Loft, Lace Scallop Dress, $98. It has a scalloped raw lace edge at the hem. It’s also a gorgeous dress and at well over $200 less, it’s also a smart buy!

Last night I attended the J. Crew Fall/Holiday Shopping Event sponsored by American Express at J. Crew’s Fifth Avenue Store. It was very well attended, quite crowded in fact. There was a DJ set up towards the front of the store and bar set up in the back. There were also waiters coming around with silver trays of pomegranate cosmopolitans and canapés. The bar in back had Prosecco (Italian sparkling wine) and the cosmos also. I think there was also beer served.
Jenna Lyons (President & Creative Director), Marissa Webb (VP Women’s Design) and Frank Muytjens (VP Men’s Design) all spoke briefly. Jenna looked amazing in a mini dress with a utility jacket over it, black tights and sky high heels. Marissa was wearing the Sequin Sonnet Mini ($358) with some killer boots (also super high). (you can see their outfits if you link to the Fashionista post, I put a link at the end.)
My pictures didn’t turn out well at all, sorry about that…

Everyone received a $25 gift card then upon leaving a gift bag. The bag contained the Studded Leather Pouch in Warm Brick ($68 value), a little paper guide called ‘Haute Pants – A Pocket Size Guide to our Favorite Pants for Fall’, and a silver box that had a 20% coupon for your next online purchase, when you use American Express.
You got 15% off any purchases during the evening also. And with a $150 purchase or more another gift. I didn’t actually buy anything though so I don’t know what that gift was.
All in all I thought it was a very nice event. Although I think it was a bit too crowded for good shopping.
Fashionista has a very good write-up of the event and photos here.

If you’re like me, and tend to wear black, grays, white and maybe a bit of dark brown all the time… a good way to add color to your wardrobe is with a coat. There are some nice purple tones out there this Fall…
This one from Ann Taylor Loft has military styling and comes in eggplant.
Ann Taylor Loft Melton Wool Military Coat, $188.
This one from J. Crew has a nice stand up collar and comes in dark plum. The wool fabric is from Italy, so you know it’ll be really nice quality.
J. Crew Double Cloth Bonbon Coat, $325.
Here’s an update on the classic peacoat, in cabernet.
DKNY Notch Collar Peacoat, $139.

Studded clog shoes and boots are very popular this Fall. You needn’t spend a fortune to get the look, for example the fabulous boots from Twelfth St. by Cynthia Vincent are a bit pricey at $375, but you can get a pair so similar that most people probably wouldn’t even notice the difference – from Banana Republic for $250. And if you take advantage of one of Banana’s frequent 25% off sales (like their current online event, with code: BREVENT25) you can get them for $187.50 which is half of the price of the Cynthia Vincent boots!
Twelfth St. by Cynthia Vincent ‘Wren’ Suede Clog Boots, $375
Banana Republic ‘Chandra’ Clog Boot, $250, sale $187.50. The current 25% off sale ends Oct. 12 at 11:59 pm. Use code BREVENT25 at checkout. It’s valid on purchases over $100.

I’ve been looking for a good pair of rain boots for a while, as much as I’d love to spend $200+ for Burberry, honestly it just seems a bit silly for rubber boots. So I’ve been looking for something more affordable that still has some style. Here are two great options, both are way less than Burberry or even the classic Hunter rain boots (they sell for $125).
Sperry Top-Sider Pelican Rain Boot in Black Croc Embossed Rubber, $75
I love the croc detail, it makes them look more interesting then just a plain boot. These have a 5 star review rating on Zappos too!
Here’s another pair of croc embossed rain boots that are available at Target. Bamboo by Journee Croc Print Black Rubber Rain Boots, $39.99.
They look almost exactly like the Sperry boots, but are almost half the price. The loop at the top looks helpful for pulling them on.

I saw this coat the other day at a J. Crew store, wow, it’s super nice! As it should be for $425!
J. Crew Collection Trudie Herringbone Coat
The color is a lovely oatmeal (it is also available in olive) and the wool blend (wool/nylon in a twill weave) fabric has nice drapey feel, not stiff and un-moving like many wool coat fabrics can be. I’m sure it helps that the fabric is made in Italy. The funnel collar gives it some interest (most coats have your standard notch collar). The inside has a big tag that says “J. Crew Collection” and a metal chain for hanging it on a hook. It certainly looks to be a step up from the regular J. Crew, and deserved of the “Collection” label.
They have a similar coat that is part of the regular collection, it has the same cut but is made in a different fabric. Double-Cloth Bonbon Coat, $325. This one comes in six colors (rainforest green, warm taupe, sea salt, spicy russet, dark plum and black)! The fabric is also Italian, a wool/polyamide blend. This is also a nice coat, but the fabric doesn’t have the wonderful drapey quality, it’s more stiff. The textured fabric of the Collection version also gives it a certain richness that this one doesn’t have. (Go see it in person, you’ll see that I mean!)
If you’re in the market for a new Winter coat this year, they’re both really nice choices.

Via Spiga is a good choice for a mid-range shoe. They have the nice details like real leather lining and leather soles and their designs are excellent, on-trend but still somehow classic.
Here are a few picks for Fall:
Essex Ankle Boots, $275. They look like lace-ups but they actually zipper up the inner sides. They have a 3/4″ platform and 4″ stacked heel.
Elora Snake Embossed Pumps, $225. These were featured in the ad pages of several of the big September issues. It’s a very classic cut with peep toes, platforms and nicely shaped stacked heels.
Clogs have been popular for a while. These have nice styling with leather tassels and super high 5″ wood heels. Allston Clogs, regular $185, now on sale $99!

This organic cotton tote bag from Ralph Lauren features the iconic Big Pony in pink and 100% of the net proceeds from sales of the bag will be donated to the Pink Pony Fund to support cancer programs (for screening, early diagnosis, treatment and research).
I’m always carrying around an extra bag, so why not get one that’s cute and supports a good cause! And, it’s only $10 – a total win/win!

I’m a big fan of Fresh products, while a bit pricey, they are super high quality and all smell so wonderful! I don’t think I’ve ever tried a Fresh product that I didn’t like. They’ve come out with a great travel size skincare kit featuring their soy products. It makes it so easy to pack, just grab and go!
Soy Skincare Set, $38
It contains Soy Face Cleanser, Soy Face Exfoliant, Soy Face Serum and Soy Face Cream. They’re all packed in a sleek little white zippered case.
They’ve also come out with a travel size of their Citron de Vigne fragrance in a convenient roller ball format. This is great because fragrance is really difficult to travel with – - really, who hasn’t worried about their bottle breaking and having all your clothes perfume soaked!
Citron de Vigne Eau de Parfum Rollerball, $18.50. If you’re not familiar with this fragrance, it has top notes of neroli, bitter orange and pink grapefruit; middle notes of Fresh’s pinot noir accord, jasmine tea leaves and lemongrass; and base notes: patchouli, sandalwood and amber.
There’s a special offer available now through the end of the day 9/24… with a $100 purchase and code CITRON at checkout you get free travel sizes of Citron de Vigne shower & bath gel and body lotion!
