  • Madewell (J.Crew’s sister brand) has finally switched over their website from being informational to e-tail.  The site is set up very much like J. Crew’s…

Their looks to me seem to be very similar to J.Crew, perhaps a little younger, more “downtown” vibe, less girly?  Here are some looks from their “Looks We Love“.

    above, academy blazer, $168

above, dustbowl denim shirt, (no longer available)

    above, railstraight cutoffs, $98

  • Ann Taylor seems to be having a great year, their stock is up over 50% this year and their product line seems a lot more appealing in general.  They’ve got a bunch of new arrivals on their site, here.

I like the super high Vivian Double Strap Platform Sandals, $158.  The heel is 4-3/4″ with a 1/2″ platform.

I also like the new lightweight scarves.  This one, the Iconic Animal Print Sheer Scarf, $58 is made with a blend of silk, wool and cashmere.

Also, they’re offering an extra 40% off all sales items through Monday!  View the sale items here.  Use code SALE40 at checkout.

  • I kind of hate traveling now since I have to check my bag so I can bring my boatload of skincare products.  So I was really happy to run across 3FLOZ.com a website that specializes in mini sizes (TSA approved).  They carry some good premium brands: Dr. Hauschka, DDF, Malin + Goetz, Molton Brown, Phyto, and more.  And you don’t even have to worry about the sizes, because everything they sell is in a TSA approved size.

I’m most picky about what I put on my face.  They have a few great kits that make it easy to have everything ready to go!

Ole Henriksen Starter Kit, $68.  It includes a cleanser, face tonic, day creme with spf, night cream, a mask and a scrub… talk about complete, that’s everything you need!

Dr. Hauschka Daily Face Care Kit, $30.  It comes with cleansing cream, cleansing milk, toner, 3 types of day cream.

The Malin + Goetz Essential Kit, $30 is good because it contains of couple of skincare items and hair and body items.  If you can get away with just a couple of products for your face, it’s great.  It has face cleanser, face moisturizer, body wash, shampoo, conditioner and body lotion.

If you want a kit just for your hair, the Ted Gibson Travel Essentials, $25 comes with shampoo, conditioner, hair spray and hair styling sheets.

Or, if you want to make up your own kit, mixing different brands and products you can buy individual items that are sold separately and customize your own travel kit!  The two founders of the company reveal their favorite products and you can buy those as kits too: Alexi’s Kit, $200 and Kate’s Kit, $81.

Oh, and these are brilliant even when you’re not traveling: Herban Essentials Hand Sanitizing Towelettes, $15 for a packet of 20.

Here’s to some good summer travels!

  • Swimming and sun can really fry your hair over the summer, be prepared with some products to keep your hair healthy.

L’Occitane has a couple of new products that are loaded with essential oils to bring the maximum amount of a plant’s benefits to your hair (lavender, geranium, angelica, sunflower seed extracts, mint, eucalyptus, etc.)

Summer Protection Sun Mist, $24.  This mist protects the hair from UV rays and prevents hair from becoming dry, leaving it smooth and tangle-free.

Summer Protection Gel Mask Conditioner, $29. Protects hair from UV rays while nourishing and restoring each strand, and preserving color and brilliance.

Frederic Fekkai also has some great products.  His Marine Summer Hair line is designed with the problems of summer hair in mind.

Marine Clean Detox Shampoo, $23.  Uses sea algae, sea kelp, sea water and marine peptides to moisturize and gently detoxify to leave hair shiny, soft and free of chlorine, residue and impurities.

Beachcomber Leave-in Conditioner, $23. Uses the same beneficial ingredients as the shampoo to instantly detangle and boost moisture, softness and shine.

  • Today it’s finally feeling like Spring again!  (only a month now until Summer)  Something about great weather inspires color… I’m not big on color, but I think a dash here or there to brighten an outfit is perfect!

Here are a few subtle options:

Overstock.com has a deal on this Fendi bag ($962.99) with bright blue detailing.

This turquoise necklace with a clover shape and a 14k gold chain is reminiscent of Van Cleef and Arpel’s Alhambra Collection, but for a lot less!  It comes in three lengths: 16″ for $145, 18″ for $150 and 20″ for $155.

This clutch ($212) by Pietro Alessandro is in an unusual shade of blue and features pyramid studs and a zipper closure.

These beautiful blue topaz earrings ($475) have 2 shades of blue (the darker is called London blue topaz), they’re on 14k gold earwires.

  • Great news if you need to stock up on some warmer weather items, Banana is offering 25% off through Sunday 5/23.  If you’re shopping online use code: SUMMER25.

Here are some examples of the deals to be had:

I love stocking up on tank tops, I must have 20 of them because I always buy several when I find one that I like.  Their timeless tank comes in 6 colors and the cut is really nice. Regular $20, sale $15.

This dress is super cute for bumming around on the weekends, I’d just wear it with flip flops.  Twist Back Day Dress. Regular $69.50, Sale $52.13.

This gold skirt is interesting because it’s got a casual shape but the gold makes it a bit fancy. You could easily pair it with a simple tank top and pile on some dramatic jewelry and wear it to go out!  It’s part of the Banana Republic Monogram Collection: Gold Sandstorm Skirt. Regular $89.50, Sale $67.13.

  • In Gossip Girl’s Season Three season finale, Georgina is seen sporting some tall leopard print Louboutins…

    Image: tvfanatic.com

These, at Neiman Marcus, seem to be the most similar that are available right now: Christian Louboutin Leopard Print Patent Hidden Platform Pump, $795.

You can get a similar look with Dolce Vita’s Trinity Pumps.  They’re normally $198, but are on sale at Lord & Taylor for $137.99, plus they’re offering an extra 20% off sale items with code: BIG. That puts them at a mere $110.39!  They are made with leopard print calf hair leather with 4-1/4 inch heels with hidden platforms.  They even feature the almond shaped toe that Christian Louboutin often uses.

  • There’s already much talk about the fashion in the upcoming Sex and the City 2 movie.  I think we’ll be seeing more of the desert fashion look of their trip to Abu Dhabi (filmed in Morocco).

    Image: Craig Blankenhorn/New Line

Tory Burch tunics are a good option for this look.  The look is similar to the traditional Moroccan caftan.  Tory Burch’s style is often influenced and inspired by Morocco.  Here you can see a collage from her inspirations section of the Tory Burch website:

They are quite pricey though… But if you act fast there are several nice ones on sale right now!

Safo Dress, Sale $167.50 (regular price $335)

Kara Tunic, Sale $227.50 (regular $325)

Stephanie Tunic, Sale $206.50 (regular $295)

Tory Tunic with Fringe, Sale $147.50 (regular $295)

  • I was in Chicago over the weekend and I finally got to see the giant bean in Millennium Park!

Here’s one of my pictures.  (too bad it was such a gray day)

The perfect souvenir for a visit to the giant bean is a Tiffany Elsa Peretti Bean Pendant!  ($250)  They’d be smart to have a mini boutique nearby that sold all of the bean items of which there are several (cufflinks, earrings, rings, bracelets), you can see them all here.
