  • Flower Toe Flats

I am still lamenting not having bought these wonderful ballet flats that I saw a few years ago, they were simple round toe, classic black, but had big leather flowers on each toe which made them unique.  I loved them, they were made in Italy but they were from an unknown brand and were $225!  I thought that was a lot…  So I was pleased when I saw these cute similar flats from Garnet Hill: Floral Ballet Flats.   They are priced at $98 as a special introductory price but will go up to $128 as of Sep. 14th.

And these are also made in Italy!  They’re leather with leather lining and rubber soles.

  • Amazing Charcoal Mask from Origins

A while back I got a huge sample of Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask from Beauty.com.  The color of the mask (dark gray) is a little scary, but I figured I’d try it.  I’m glad I did!  I don’t have “problem skin” but who doesn’t want smaller pores?  Almost everyone has some larger pores on the sides of the nose, etc.  Well, I couldn’t believe what a good job it did!  You put it on your damp face after you’ve opened your pores with a warm wash cloth, as it dries you feel your skin tighten… it’s a weird feeling.  After it’s all dry, you rinse it off.  I definitely noticed a more refined looking skin tone!

At $21 for 3.4 fl. oz. it is also one of the better deals out there in the skincare world.  Here are the package details: When environmental toxins, dirt and debris get under your skin, its waste-filtering system gets jammed, pores get clogged, skin looks cloudy. Nature’s complexion clean-up crew gets to the bottom of skins overcast condition and clears the way for it to act its best. Activated Charcoal acts like a magnet to draw out deep-dwelling pore-cloggers, White China Clay absorbs environmental toxins, Lecithin dissolves impurities. Without all that “stuff” down there, skin “breathes a sigh of relief.”

I’m adding it to my skincare regime for sure!

  • Rx for Weak Nails

If you’ve ever had weak, peeling, brittle nails then you know you’d pay almost anything to make them strong!  $30 seems crazy for a tiny bottle of nail polish but Perfect Formula Pink Gel Coat, ($30) seems to be quite worth it.

It is a protein-rich nail coating that strengthens, seals, and protects. It creates a sheer pink coating that strengthens and hardens natural nails so they grow long and strong. The keratin-rich formula includes an optical brightener that filters out any yellow appearance in your nails, bringing out the natural color in your nail bed and making the whites of your nails appear whiter.

It also comes in a clear version, if you are averse to pink, Perfect Formula Gel Coat, $24.

  • Wear Now, Wear Later: Tailored Shorts

Now that we’re in August, it’s a great time to think about things you can wear now as well as into the Fall.  A tailored pair of shorts can be a great alternative to a skirt, and you can wear them with bare legs now and with tights well into the Fall and even Winter!

Here’s a good option: J. Crew Wool Tuxedo Shorts, $88

Wear now with bare legs, ballet flats and a cute top.  And as the weather gets colder, wear with tights, booties and a sweater!

These are another good option:  J. Crew Super 120s Pinstripe Short, $88

120s wool is super fine, so it’s truly an all-season fabric.

  • Look for Less: Louboutin Rolando Pumps

Christian Louboutin’s Rolando pumps have inspired so many imitations it’s kind of crazy.  The unique, elegant pointed toe – sometimes called almond or crescent toe – has a seam up the front, you see that all the time now.

Below is the Christian Louboutin Rolando Python in Roccia Grey, $1195. The heel is 120 mm or about 4.7 inches.  They are made in Italy and are made with python, leather, and of course have the signature red Louboutin soles.

Here’s a very good option for a similar shoe by Bruno Magli (pre-order from Bloomingdale’s).  Bruno Magli Mirta Platform Pumps, $355… less than 1/3 the price of the Louboutins.  They are also made in Italy and have 4.75″ heels, embossed leather upper, leather lining and leather soles.  The rich gray color will look great with this Fall’s colors!
