  • Studded clog shoes and boots are very popular this Fall.  You needn’t spend a fortune to get the look, for example the fabulous boots from Twelfth St. by Cynthia Vincent are a bit pricey at $375, but you can get a pair so similar that most people probably wouldn’t even notice the difference – from Banana Republic for $250. And if you take advantage of one of Banana’s frequent 25% off sales (like their current online event, with code: BREVENT25) you can get them for $187.50 which is half of the price of the Cynthia Vincent boots!

Twelfth St. by Cynthia Vincent ‘Wren’ Suede Clog Boots, $375

Banana Republic ‘Chandra’ Clog Boot, $250, sale $187.50.  The current 25% off sale ends Oct. 12 at 11:59 pm. Use code BREVENT25 at checkout. It’s valid on purchases over $100.

  • Great news if you need to stock up on some warmer weather items, Banana is offering 25% off through Sunday 5/23.  If you’re shopping online use code: SUMMER25.

Here are some examples of the deals to be had:

I love stocking up on tank tops, I must have 20 of them because I always buy several when I find one that I like.  Their timeless tank comes in 6 colors and the cut is really nice. Regular $20, sale $15.

This dress is super cute for bumming around on the weekends, I’d just wear it with flip flops.  Twist Back Day Dress. Regular $69.50, Sale $52.13.

This gold skirt is interesting because it’s got a casual shape but the gold makes it a bit fancy. You could easily pair it with a simple tank top and pile on some dramatic jewelry and wear it to go out!  It’s part of the Banana Republic Monogram Collection: Gold Sandstorm Skirt. Regular $89.50, Sale $67.13.

  • Yesterday was just a glorious day in New York.  I went for a long walk and did some window shopping.  Since it was Sunday and Easter, nearly no one was open (for shops anyway).

The Herve Leger boutique (804 Madison Ave, betw. 67th and 68th streets) had a fabulous blue bikini in the window.  It looked like it was made out of the same fabric as his famous bandage dresses, which seems a bit odd for a bathing suit… like you wouldn’t want to swim in it…  Unfortunately, I cannot find a picture of this suit anywhere.

At Guiseppe Zanotti (806 Madison Ave, betw. 67th and 68th streets), they had these super high platform sandals ($750) in the window.

I did find a wonderful spot for lunch or an early evening cocktail: Bistro Le Chat Noir on 66th Street between Madison and Fifth.  (Odd Fact – It happens to be diagonally across the street from where Imelda Marcos and all her shoes used to live!)   After walking around for a couple of hours my boyfriend and I were feeling a bit parched and a tiny bit hungry so we stopped in for some champagne and to split an appetizer.  They had a really tasty and very Spring-ish lobster salad prepared with 1/2 a lobster, mesclun greens and fresh fennel in a citrus vinaigrette.  You can check out the entire menu, here.  For the location, I would say it was a very good value too.

One of the few places that was open yesterday was Banana Republic.  I have always been a devotee of their basic tank tops.  They have changed it yet again, as they seem to do every couple of years.  I like the new style (timeless tank, $20).  One of my pet peeves is when the fabric is too thin that when you’re wearing the white one that it is completely see-through.  This one’s fabric has some substance so that is not the case.  I always get white, black and gray.  They now have the gray below (urban gray) and a standard heathered gray.

They also have the same shape done in an interesting stripe and dye effect (Stripe Tie-dye Timeless Tank, $20).  The dye effect is really cool, it’s only in the blue stripe.  I wonder how they did that?

  • On April 8th at the new Banana Republic Soho Flagship store (552-554 Broadway at Prince street) they’re having a private Thank You Event Launch Party.  It’s not that private though, since all you need for entrance is either the invitation or a Banana Republic card, so if you got one of those, you’re in!
